![]() The new RSW Regional Jail will serve Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren Counties, with an initial capacity of 375 inmates. The facility will blend in with neighboring facilities without the visible features, such as razor ribbon, observation towers, or high mast lighting that is often associated with a correctional institution. The front of the building will be brick with stone accents. The project is currently LEED® registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and will pursue certification when construction is complete. Notable high performance and sustainable design features include: installing highly-reflective roof materials to keep the building cool; installing a vacuum-assisted flushing system that will result in a 40 percent reduction in water use; and increasing insulation, modular chillers, and energy recovery wheels to save 20 percent on energy bills.
